Description
The Peterborough Clock Tower is one of the cities most recognizable landmarks. The tower itself is a part of Market Hall, which served as a local market place and cultural facility for over a century. Market Hall and the Clock Tower were designed by a local Peterborough architect, John E Belcher and originally opened in 1890, serving the city as a farmers market until more modern supermarkets arrived in Peterborough.
The building was re-purchased by the City of Peterborough in 2000 and remains to this day one of the iconic images to Peterborough’s downtown skyline and streetscape. Today, Market Hall is a local theater for the performing arts.
